Youth and Family Counseling

Getting help early on makes a difference.

Throughout a child’s life, they look for support in many different ways. Natural supports in a child’s life make a huge impact on their growth and development; teachers, child care providers, coaches, church leaders, and of course, most important of all – their family! By being responsive to your child’s needs, you help them form healthy social and emotional skills such as tolerating difficult emotions, sharing, caring about others, respect, and curiosity. These skills also allow your child to learn and achieve academic success! Additional support may be needed if you see your child struggling or they have been through a traumatic event. Our multi-disciplinary team is here to help your family through challenging times.  An early start with intervention can make a huge difference for their future!

Child Centered Play Therapy

Play therapy lets your child express their experiences through a natural, self-determined process that fits their social and emotional needs. As they communicate their experiences through play, your child will feel emotionally safe and empowered to accept themselves and others. Play therapy skills are often taught to parents through a process called Filial Therapy, giving you helpful tools and strategies for more natural opportunities at home.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is an opportunity for families to learn healthy ways to interact with each other and emphasizes relationship as one of the most important factors in psychological health. Parents can gain positive parenting skills such as giving effective praise while ignoring behaviors they find annoying or loud. Caregivers also learn to give effective commands and consistent consequences in response to disruptive or aggressive behaviors. By learning how to respectfully talk and listen to each other, family members are able to experience the joy, fun, and fulfillment from these lifelong relationships.

Evidence-Based Programs

Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is used with children ages 0 – 6 years old who have experienced at least one traumatic event and are now experiencing attachment, behavior and/or mental health problems. Clinicians invest in the parent-child relationship to help reestablish a sense of safety and security.

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is for children ages 2 – 6 1/2 years old who are presenting with challenging or high risk and unsafe behaviors. The clinician works to reduce disruptive behaviors while preserving the quality of the parent-child relationship.
