Problem Gambling Services

 

Gambling:  Any time one wagers anything for themselves or another person, that is of value, and where the outcome of the wager is uncertain - Gamblers Anonymous

The gambling assistance program is FREE OF CHARGE to any person who gambles primarily in Oregon and/or primarily gambles with an Oregon Lottery product.  Our goal is to provide services to individuals and families where gambling has become a major problem, financially and emotionally.  Services are provided in both Columbia and Clatsop counties in our offices in Scappoose, St. Helens, Vernonia, Rainier, Clatskanie and Astoria.

Services:

Assessment

  • A comprehensive assessment is provided which includes an interview with the gambler, other contacts as agreed to by the client
  • Documentation of assessment and status reports for any mandated referral source.

Individual Outpatient treatment for Gambling

  • Participants are provided an individual treatment plan, which guides the process from initial treatment to completion.  Clients are seen individually in a confidential session weekly or bi-weekly. 

Gamblers’ Support Group

  • A weekly support group meets on Wednesdays at 6:00 P.M. in St. Helens to provide information and encouragement for participants.

Counseling for Family members who are affected by the gambler’s behavior

  • Separate and joint sessions are held to support treatment of the gambler.  This option is available contingent upon the gambler’s treatment plan.

Family Support Group

  • This group is a monthly group that provides information for families and increases understanding of the treatment issues for the gambler.  It also provides a safe environment for the gambler to receive information from family members.

Short-term Residential Treatment

  • Pathways Respite Care is a short-term (10-14 days) residential setting that is intended to provide a structured setting for the gambler to recover after an intense episode of gambling or to meet other urgent needs of the gambler.

Referral to treatment for other problems if needed

  • If additional treatment is indicated from the assessment or requested by the client, a referral can be made for psychiatric assessment and treatment, medication management, alcohol and drug treatment and family services.
  • Community Outreach, prevention and education: Presentations to your group can be scheduled at the number bellow.
